ABOUT COPP'S IRRIGATION

In 1972, Jim Copp started Copp's Irrigation in the Sierra foothills of California, primarily installing the then-new and very promising technology of drip irrigation in vineyards and orchards from Stockton to Petaluma. When he moved his growing family back to his wife Jane's family ranch in Modoc County in 1976, his focus shifted to irrigating hay fields and pastures. Very little irrigation existed in northeastern CA in the 1970s, with most of the fields producing enough for subsistence farming of dryland crops. Jim began upgrading his own ranch and offering irrigation products for sale to other local customers, growing a client base that now extends 100 miles and beyond in every direction. With the introduction of irrigation, Jim Copp was instrumental in transforming Modoc, Lassen, Shasta, and Siskiyou Counties from dryland farming with minimal irrigation to lush, productive, profitable farmland that will serve generations to come.

Photos in the Copp's Irrigation office tell the story of its growth. Jim first set up Copp’s Irrigation in the front yard at their ranch, where Jane and the kids helped build wheel lines in between keeping the books, tending cows, farming, and picking rocks out of fields while Jim alternated between running his own ranch and helping his customers run theirs. When the county informed him of zoning issues prohibiting the Irrigation business from being at the ranch, he moved the operation to the old Texaco station in Adin, which then became Copp’s Corner gas station and mini-market in 1984 (now known as Juniper Junction). Jane spent many years running the store and Irrigation office while raising their family. Jim’s days would begin before dawn on his ranch, then he’d go tend to irrigation jobs for other people before returning to change his own wheel lines, often after dark. With the purchase of the former Big Valley Millworks property on the south end of Adin in the early 2000’s, Copp’s Irrigation was also able to expand its inventory. Jim recognized the potential of pivot irrigation and became a Reinke pivot dealer in 1994. Copp’s Irrigation was honored in October 2024 at the annual Reinke convention in Omaha, Nebraska, for 30 continuous years as one of the top selling dealers in Reinke’s Southwest Region.

The Copp's Irrigation crew includes three generations of family, with Jim still involved in the Irrigation operations, their daughter Julie managing the office & her husband Robert in the warehouse, son Perry (and sometimes his young boys Isaac & Ethan) doing technical work and service calls, and Julie's son Jacob welding and fabricating. Our fantastic team in the office and field crew work hard to get the job done for customers and provide experienced, affordable products and services to this region. Call or come by and see our extensive inventory and ask how we can help you with your next project!
